Your Contribution to NRSI
NRSI is looking for a Senior Biologist based in, or willing to relocate to, Calgary, Alberta, who will work closely with colleagues in Calgary, and collaborate with colleagues in other NRSI offices, to oversee office operations, identify and lead business development opportunities, and determine staffing requirements and technical needs for project implementation. Although hybrid work options are available, a regular presence within the Calgary office will be expected, meeting corporate policy of in-office attendance of at least two days per week.

The primary duties and responsibilities for this role include:
- Lead and/or contribute to business development activities, such as the identification and pursuit of opportunities, preparation of proposals, and contacting new potential clients;
- Oversee operations in our Calgary office under the direction of senior management;
- Coordinate and manage existing projects, work with regulatory agencies and client contacts;
- Play a leadership role and mentor existing technical staff and junior Project Managers;
Your Education:
- A diploma or degree in Biology or Environmental Sciences. Similar educational experience will also be considered.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience (>10 years preferred) with demonstrated project management and business development experience within the western provinces and northern territories, especially in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and/or British Columbia;
- Ability to meet business development targets focused on securing new clients and projects;
- Proven track record of successfully identifying, securing, and leading natural environment projects;
- Designation as a Professional Biologist (P.Biol) in Alberta, or equivalent;
- Technical expertise in an ecological discipline, such as wetland ecology, botany, avian ecology, or other;
- Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity with local, provincial, and federal natural heritage guidelines, policies, and legislation;
- Knowledgeable representation at client and agency meetings, industry conferences, and public information sessions;
- Preparation and review of high-quality technical reports in accordance with relevant guidance documents and policies;
- Supervision and mentorship of technical staff and project managers;
- A valid driver’s license;
- Over 21 years old in order to drive a rental vehicle; and
- Regular presence at the Calgary office location.
Assets:
- The candidate should have existing relationships with Alberta Environment and Protected Areas, Saskatchewan Ministry of the Environment, and other similar provincial and/or federal regulatory agencies
- A proven track record of successfully identifying, securing, and completing natural environment projects is essential.
