Your Contribution to NRSI
NRSI is looking for a motivated individual with expertise in terrestrial/wetland or aquatic ecological field monitoring to join our growing team. The successful applicant will be based out of Thunder Bay, Ontario and will be expected to regularly lead and/or assist with field monitoring activities for a variety of wildlife and/or vegetation survey types, as well as contribute to office-based tasks.
The primary duties and responsibilities for this role include:

The successful applicant will be based out of Thunder Bay, Ontario and will be expected to regularly lead and/or assist with field monitoring activities for a variety of wildlife and/or vegetation survey types, as well as contribute to office-based tasks.
The primary duties and responsibilities for this role include:
- Leading or assisting with field surveys for one or more of: vegetation, birds, herpetofauna, bats, or wetlands, among others,
- Taking well-organized and detailed field notes,
- Communicating frequently and as required with project managers, other field staff, and clients, and
- Assisting with a variety of office-related tasks such as data management and data analysis.
Your Education:
- A diploma or degree in Biology or Environmental Sciences. Similar educational experience will also be considered.
- A valid driver's license and over 21 years old in order to drive a rental or company vehicle.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Minimum of one (1) field season of experience in planning and leading surveys for at least one of the following: vascular plant inventories, vegetation community mapping, birds, herpetofauna, or bats.
- Willing and able to travel for regular multi-day field surveys, in remote locations, under inclement weather, in a variety of environmental conditions, and occasionally for long hours.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team.
- Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail, including the maintenance of well-organized and detailed field notes.
- Able to reliably commute on a regular basis to the work location.
- A reliable personal vehicle insured for work purposes (authorized mileage will be reimbursed).
- Certifications in Ecological Land Classification (ELC) and the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System (OWES).
- Experience in completing surveys for birds, herpetofauna, vegetation, pollinators/insects, mammals, fish, mussels.
- Boat license and ATV training.
